Fishing permits in a nutshell

Angling and ice fishing are common fishing rights and do not require permits of their own. For fishing other than angling or ice fishing, persons 18 to 64 years of age shall pay a fisheries management fee to the State. The fishing permit allows you to fish with one lure/rod in the lake or pond areas, excluding special permit areas. These special permit areas are such places in which fishing has been restricted with the permission of the Centre for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment, for example fish stocking ponds and some areas of the Metsähallitus (the Finnish Forest Administration). All information is available on the website Kalastusrajoitus.fi.

For flowing waters, an own river-specific permit is needed. Angling and ice fishing in flowing waters are forbidden. For the purpose of fishing with more than one rod, a permit from the owner of the water area is needed, in addition to the fisheries management fee.

The fisheries management fee can be paid through the online shop Eräluvat, at the R-kiosks and in the customer service points of the Metsähallitus (the Finnish Forest Administration) selling permits. Other fishing permits can be bought in the customer service points determined by the bodies of joint owners of a jointly-owned water area.
