Clients of social work for persons with disabilities and of disability services consist of persons with disabilities living in Kuusamo (persons with an intellectual disability). The aim of the social work for persons with disabilities is to support their coping smoothly in everyday life along with their comprehensive functional ability. Matters related to informal care for persons less than 65 years of age are being taken care of by the services for persons with disabilities.
Social work for persons with disabilities includes, among other things, guidance and counselling, client appointments, home visits and client negotiations with cooperation partners.
Clients can contact social work for persons with disabilities in various problem situations in life, such as
- Assessment of the need for services
- Making a service plan
- Arranging housing
- Issues related to subsistence, coping and managing at home
- Applying for services in accordance with the Act on Disability Services and Assistance
- Applying for informal care support
Services in accordance with the Act on Disability Services and Assistance
In accordance with the Act on Disability Services and Assistance, the services and support measures included in the special responsibility for organising services consist of transport services, personal assistance, daily activities, sheltered housing, housing modifications, tools, equipment and devices that belong to the dwelling. Other services and support measures stated in this Act belong to the common responsibility for organising, in other words, these services and support measures will be organised within the limits of the appropriations.
Coping and managing of a person with disabilities and of a chronically ill person is supported through disability services. These services also enhance conditions for a person with disabilities to live with others as an equal member of society. At the same time, these services strive for removing disadvantages and obstacles caused by disability.
Application
Services and financial support measures based on the Act on Disability Services and Assistance can be applied for through the year (continuous period for applications). The applicant’s income and wealth will not be taken into account when granting services, but the basis is always any disadvantage caused by a disability or long-term illness. Decisions complying with the Act on Disability Services and Assistance will be made by a social worker/social counsellor.
