Tourist Centre Karhuntassu
The Tourist Centre Karhuntassu is a great place to visit any time of year. Under the same roof you can find the tourist information, the Metsähallitus service desk and the Hannu Hautala Nature Photography Centre with its cafeteria. Outside the building there are large maps of the area, a playground for children, a memorial for the 3rd Army Corps, and a large parking area. The centre is suitable for handicapped people using a wheelchair.
The Tourist information provides you with a good selection of maps and prochures of Kuusamo and the surrounding areas. The info personnel provides information on events, sights, places of interest, restaurants and outdoor activities and hiking routes. Information on other tourist services in the area is also available.
You can also buy fishing licences for most of the fishing destinations in the area, and the state permits from the Metsähallitus service desk.
The Hannu Hautala Nature Photography Centre was opened in Tourist Centre Karhuntassu in 2007. The exhibition is a tribute to Hannu Hautala, one of the most famous nature photographers in Finland, and a true pioneer in the field of nature photography. The exhibition is worth a visit for any nature enthusiast or anyone interested in nature photography. In the Nature Café you can read a wide variety of nature photography magazines while sipping a nice cup of coffee or tea.
