Nilo School

Nilo School is an upper level comprehensive school with about 400 students. It is the largest of the three upper level schools in Kuusamo town. Being founded as early as in 1957, our school has long traditions. The so-called "Nilo spirit" is often mentioned as to our school.

In addition to basic obligatory subjects Nilo school offers its students optional subjects such as music, textile work, wood work, metal work, home economics, German, French and art. Students have a total of 30 hours per week, four hours of them being optional subjects. In addition to optional subjects students choose shorter courses which they study one and a half hours per week. Mothertongue, foreign languages, maths, P.E, home economics, textile work, music and art offer a choice of short courses.

Other activities during the school year are celebrations (Independence Day, Christmas, Valentine's Day, the end of school year in june), and different theme days one of which is an international day in October focusing on the United Nations, Africa and our sister school in Zimbabwe. Nilo rock with students playing takes also place every year.

Nilo school has also taken part in international co-operation such as a Comenius project between Germany, France and Poland. International co-operation will go on future years, too.
